You’ve come to the right place. LegalEagle is all about giving you an insider’s view to the legal system. Have some fun and learn to think like a lawyer.

I get asked a lot about whether being a practicing attorney is like being a lawyer on TV. I love watching legal movies and courtroom dramas. It's one of the reasons I decided to become a lawyer. But sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out because they are ridiculous. So I created this channel to answer your burning questions about the law and the legal profession. While all legal movies and shows take dramatic license to make things more interesting (nobody wants to see hundreds of hours of brief writing), many of them have a grain of truth. Learn everything you always wanted to know about being an attorney! ..."

Why Planes Don't Fly Over the Pacific Ocean

VideoSift shared an interesting nine minutes YouTube video showing "Why Planes Don't Fly Over the Pacific Ocean -- Why do airlines avoid the Pacific Ocean? You might think it was a safety issue. The Pacific is the largest and deepest of the world’s oceans. If a plane encounters a problem over a seemingly endless and bottomless pond of water, the pilots are going to have a rough time finding a safe spot to set her down.

Guessing that it is a safety precaution wouldn't be entirely wrong. When planning a route, many pilots prefer to maximize the number of airports along their path. Emergencies are incredibly rare relative to how many planes take to the skies every day. That said, it isn’t the main reason airlines tend to avoid making a straight shot east to west..."

American Experience's Chasing The Moon Documentary

American Experience's Chasing The Moon is a three 112 minutes parts (a total of 336 hours) documentary: "It took millions of steps to make one giant leap. 'Chasing the Moon,' a film by Robert Stone, reimagines the race to the moon for a new generation, upending much of the conventional mythology surrounding the effort. The series recasts the Space Age as a fascinating stew of scientific innovation, political calculation, media spectacle, visionary impulses and personal drama. Utilizing a visual feast of previously overlooked and lost archival material — much of which has never before been seen by the public — the film features a diverse cast of characters who played key roles in these historic events. Among those included are astronauts Buzz Aldrin, Frank Borman and Bill Anders; Sergei Khrushchev, son of the former Soviet premier and a leading Soviet rocket engineer; Poppy Northcutt, a 25-year old “mathematics whiz” who gained worldwide attention as the first woman to serve in the all-male bastion of NASA’s Mission Control; and Ed Dwight, the Air Force pilot selected by the Kennedy administration to train as America’s first black astronaut."

Apollo astronauts left their poop on the moon. We gotta go back for that sh*t.

Vox has an article about how "Apollo astronauts left their poop on the moon. We gotta go back for that sh*t. What 50-year-old dirty diapers can teach us about the potential origins of life on Earth.

It’s been nearly 50 years since the Apollo 11 moon landing. Neil Armstrong’s iconic footprint is still there, undisturbed; there’s no atmosphere, no wind on the moon to blow it away.

But the bigger human footprint on the moon is, arguably, the 96 bags of human waste left behind by the six Apollo missions that landed there.

Yes, our brave astronauts took dumps on their way to the moon, perhaps even on the moon, and they left behind their diapers in baggies, on humanity’s doorstep to the greater cosmos.

The bags have lingered there, and no one knows what has become of them. Now scientists want to go back, and answer a question that has profound implications for our future explorations of Mars: Is anything alive in them? ..."

These Aren’t Your Ordinary Data Centers

Lynn McGuire's newsgroup post shared a Blackblaze blog post showing interesting data centers -- "Many of us would concede that buildings housing data centers are generally pretty ordinary places. They’re often drab and bunker-like with few or no windows, and located in office parks or in rural areas. You usually don’t see signs out front announcing what they are, and, if you’re not in information technology, you might be hard pressed to guess what goes on inside.

If you’re observant, you might notice cooling towers for air conditioning and signs of heavy electrical usage as clues to their purpose. For most people, though, data centers go by unnoticed and out of mind. Data center managers like it that way, because the data stored in and passing through these data centers is the life’s blood of business, research, finance, and our modern, digital-based lives.

That’s why the exceptions to low-key and meh data centers are noteworthy. These unusual centers stand out for their design, their location, what the building was previously used for, or perhaps how they approach energy usage or cooling.

Let’s take a look at a handful of data centers that certainly are outside of the norm..."

Special When Lit: A Pinball Documentary

YouTube has an almost 1.5 hours and decade old "Special When Lit: A Pinball Documentary ... rediscovers the lure of a lost pop icon - pinball. The American invention made more money than Hollywood through the 50s and 60s. Its success swept the world making it the epitome of ‘cool’. But now pinball is all but forgotten. This is the definitive story of the rise and fall of pinball as told by the fans, collectors, designers and champion players from across the globe. Its history is charted with a series of uniquely stark and entertaining interviews with some of pinball’s greatest names. A game, a sport, a lifestyle – pinball takes this eclectic bunch back to their youth. It seems at times like an emotional and sensitive area, with the fans describing the game like a relationship, their faces lighting up as if they were recounting their first kiss. Archive footage of former US news anchorman Dan Rather opens the film from a 1977 60 Minutes segment on pinball. ‘I spent an incredible amount of time at gas stations, honky tonks and other off the beaten path places trying to appear cool...while obsessively following the descent of a steel ball down the playing surface of a garishly lit machine...a pinball machine". Pinball was everywhere. But now pinball is virtually nowhere. Kids don’t even know what a pinball machine is. Their world is online, not at the arcade or corner store. The fate of pinball seems decided yet there exists a passionate sub culture keeping the dream alive. Roger Sharpe, pinball authorative, tells the story of Pinball’s early rise to prominence in the Depression era, its eventual banning by the US Government for 30 years, the boom time in the 1970’s, and eventual defeat to video games. Living through the industry ups and downs, legendary game designers Steve Kordek, Steve Ritchie and Pat Lawlor reveal the inner workings of a game that fuses the mechanical and electrical ages. From a primitive steel ball rolling around on a flat piece of wood, designers craft a game based on the simple premise - easy to play, but hard to beat. And crucially, the collectors who feed off the designer’s handywork all crave one thing - more space. But pinball is a game with a score. And where there are scores there are competitions. ‘The Storm’, a stockbroker from New York City, confesses that you have to ‘build up your pinball muscles’ in order to compete at the highest level. From the European championships in Amsterdam and Sweden, to the World Pinball Championships in Pittsburgh, and a smattering of amateur backyard tournaments in between, Special When Lit shares the tension, dreams and disappointments of pinball’s tournament players. Rick Stetta, former World Champion, entertains with his flamboyant playing style, while current legend Lyman Sheats Jr. counters with ice-cool precision. Each to his own in a contest that is as much a mental game as physical. But it is in the final story of former arcade owner, Steve Epstein, who ran the famous Broadway Arcade in midtown New York City, that sets the inevitability of pinball. Describing pinball as a ‘universe in a box that is a lot like life - you never know what is around the corner’. Pinball was more than coins in the slots for Epstein, it became his whole social life. In a time where we can instantly access any song or movie from our past, pinball offers a throwback to a tactile physical experience that can’t be digitally reproduced. We now share our fun in a different way, but have we lost something in the process? Special When Lit recounts an alternative love for a game which brought out a wealth for memories for many generations but also the sad dissolution of what could be described as a certain way of living and playing. Perhaps pinball deserves a better fate than simply a nostalgic footnote. Whatever the future, Special When Lit will leave you searching for an arcade to line up your coins and master the silver ball.

What your (notebook/laptop)-holding position says about you at work...

LinkedIn shared a Quartz article on "What your laptop-holding position says about you -- They walk among us in just about every office: People with their laptops open, bound for conference rooms and common areas, many keeping their devices ajar to avoid losing those precious few seconds of computer wake-up time.

While we cloak our phones in shock-proof plastic and their screens with tempered-glass shields, laptops rarely get similar protection. Considering these pieces of hardware are some of the most expensive items we work with, it’s a little shocking to see how cavalier we can be toward our one essential work device.

But since when has safety outweighed looking cool?

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been observing Quartzians in their natural habitat and have tried to make sense of their odd office rituals in porting their laptops from one meeting to the next. Here are some of our findings..."

Best Life currently has five/5 rad(ical) articles on twenty/20 slang terms from each decade from the (seco/2)nd half of the 1900s ((19)50s-(19)90s) that no one uses anymore: 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s.

This old school ant still says daddy-O, pad, far out, bummer, bad, no duh, not even, talk to the hand, as if, booyah!, not!, whatever, sup, and you go girl though. :/ It looks like rad(ical) is still popular. :D

Auralnauts' YouTube Videos

Auralnauts' YouTube channel has many cool and funny videos -- "... We change the dialogue in movies to turn them into comedies. We change dialogue in commercials to turn them into dark glimpses into dystopian futures. We count how many people were murdered by popular movie stars. We write music. We basically do whatever we want and hope you enjoy it, because thinking too hard about what people want tends to ruin the creative process."

Flu, and extreme hot and cold weather.

Weather Undeground (WU) has a couple interesting long articles:
  1. Which Kills More People: Extreme Heat or Extreme Cold? -- "Extreme heat and extreme cold both kill hundreds of people each year in the U.S., but determining a death toll for each is a process subject to large errors..." Here's a related poll: A related poll about the extreme cold and heat:
  2. Flu Weather: It's Not the Cold, It's the Humidity -- "Folk wisdom has it that cold weather predisposes you to a cold or flu bug. The truth is a bit more complicated—and a lot more interesting. Research over the past few years has zeroed in on atmospheric moisture as the main weather-related factor in flu transmission. The findings are especially relevant this winter, with the U.S. in the throes of one of its worst winters of flu in years, and its driest winter in more than three decades. The key seems to be humidity levels inside, where people gather (and cough) during cold weather. Because it takes less moisture to saturate cold air than warm air, there can easily be high relative humidity (RH) outside on a bitterly cold day. However, once that air is heated to room temperature, the RH plummets..."

Ant prefers the extreme hot weather (can go naked!) over cold weather. Also, no flu infection for this season so far. ;)

How Restaurants Got So Loud

On 11/29/2018, /. shared The Atlantic article on "How Restaurants Got So Loud -- Fashionable minimalism replaced plush opulence. That’s a recipe for commotion..."

No wonder this ant has problems hearing in restaurants. :(
